Daniel Jones vs. Aaron Rodgers Debate Rages As Vikings Search for New Quarterback

The former New York Jets quarterback could be following in the footsteps of his predecessor to Minnesota.

The quarterback carousel across the NFL has become highly interesting for both fans and teams alike. We have already seen Geno Smith be traded to Las Vegas to jump-start their "win-now" period.

And due to Geno's trade from Seattle, the very scope of free agency at the quarterback position has begun to change. Factions are being built across the league and not every "name'' QB seems to be safe.

That's good to know if you're Aaron Rodgers.

It might be good to know if you're Daniels Jones, too.

At first glance of just the numbers, Rodgers was solid enough in his first full season as the Jets starter. He threw 28 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions. Despite the statistical (relative) success, Rodgers is expected to be released by the Jets this offseason for failing to turnaround the team in the two years he was there.

Now that the former four-time NFL MVP is expected to be on the open market again, there are plenty of reports who question where the 41-year-old will actually be. And Smith's trade could kickstart that decision.

With the Seattle Seahawks moving on from Geno and choosing Sam Darnold as a potential replacement, options are small for the future Hall-of-Famer. While he may still want to play, there's no guarantee an organization will agree with him.

At the very least, though, Rodgers should feel good about eventually finding a new home away from Florham Park. According to the New York Post, Rodgers "has emerged as a “dark horse” option for the Vikings now that Sam Darnold is unlikely to re-sign in Minnesota as first reported by NFL Network.

Ah, but guess who might be Aaron's competition in Minnesota? That would be Daniel Jones, the New York Giants bust who caught on with the Vikings late last season.

Could Rodgers follow in his predecessor's footsteps in failing in New York and being highly successful for the Vikings?

Could "Danny Dimes'' block that path to a repeat history?

Only time will tell but all of this at least gives Rodgers, who has accomplished so much, and Jones, who hasn't, something to think about as the NFL seems to be in transition to some degree at the QB spot.
