Cowboys Trevon Diggs Gets ‘Nutty’ in Surprise Apology to Media

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys season may still be broken, but at least one relationship has been fixed. Cornerback Trevon Diggs on Wednesday afternoon apologized to Channel 8 TV reporter Mike Leslie for angrily confronting him outside the locker room last Sunday night.

During the game, Leslie posted to his social media a play questioning what Diggs was doing because it appeared he was lazily jogging and not hustling to tackle San Francisco 49ers' tight end George Kittle on a long gain. Still in uniform, Diggs left the team's locker room and began yelling at Leslie.DEEZ NUTS

When Leslie responded that "We can talk about," Diggs punctuated his disapproval by saying "You can talk about deez nutz."

But the disagreement was resolved at The Star when Diggs not only apologized but presented Leslie with an olive branch in the form of a can of actual Dee's Nuts.

“Trevon Diggs and I have cleared the air,” Leslie said in a social media post. “He apologized for the hallway incident, and I apologized for misreading the play — he explained that what I interpreted as him jogging was in fact him slow-playing a potential cutback from George Kittle. We buried the hatchet with a couple canisters of Dee’s Nuts, that he presented to me after his interview with press was complete.”

In talking with other media, Diggs further explained both his actions on the Kittle play and his social media-fueled outburst after the game.

“I felt like I was the last line of defense,” Diggs said. “I felt like I prevented him from scoring. I took the highest angle. I didn’t think that my effort was a problem.”

As for immediately checking social media in the locker minutes after the 30-24 loss, he said "It’s 2024. Social media, this is it. This is what is in. Everyone’s on social media. That’s just what it is. It’s just a part of our life now. I don’t see nothing wrong with me going online after the game or anybody going online after the game, checking what you want to check. Maybe I want to get away from the game and just scroll.”

Leslie said he and Diggs chatted further privately after the press scrum broke up.

Said Leslie, "All is well. And yes, it was genuine. I certainly interpreted it as such."

Diggs also offered a public apology for the outburst.

"I shouldn’t have reacted the way I reacted. I apologize for that,” Diggs said. “Most of the criticism caught me at the right time.”
