What did we learn from 41-7 in Philly?
One, that no team in the NFL has benefited more from the backup quarterback position over the last two decades than the Philadelphia Eagles.
And two, that eventually, even if you're an "elite backup bus driver'' like Cooper Rush of the Dallas Cowboys, you get exposed.
And three, the Jalen Hurts' and the Dak Prescotts don't grow on trees.
Dallas ran out of good fortune with Rush at QB in place of the injured Prescott, which doesn't mean Rush lacks value. It just puts his value in perspective.
Meanwhile, Philly was both lucky and good at the position - and hopes it doesn't need any more of that particular combo.
Franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts expected to return from a concussion before the playoffs begin. But in the meantime, the Eagles used backup quarterback Kenny Pickett - as he battled through broken ribs - to win over the Cowboys.
Will Hurts be OK? Will Pickett? Luckily for the Eagles, they do have a second-year youngster on their hands who showed out in his first game action of his NFL career.
In the blowout, 2023 sixth-round pick Tanner McKee took over for the Eagles and threw two touchdown passes on five attempts during the win on Sunday - showing a sense of understanding in the offense and touch overall throughout the contest.
McKee has been a fan favorite of sorts in recent years due to his strong preseason performance as well. ... sort of like Dallas' never-used third QB Trey Lance is in Cowboys Nation.
Eagles bottom line: Philadelphia knows they will need contingencies in place to be better prepared for the grueling run that is a potential playoff push. ... and behind Jalen Hurts, they hope they have those.
Cowboys bottom line: Both of Dak's backup quarterbacks Rush and Lance are set to be free agents. But in 2025, Dallas needs to keep its $60 Million Man upright to have a chance to catch the Eagles.
