Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet confirmed the worst for former New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil after he took a brutal hit from behind on Saturday night.
Rick Tocchet confirmed that Filip Chytil has indeed suffered a concussion after Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson laid a heavy hit straight onto the back of Chytil, which resulted in him crashing head first into the boards.
On Sunday night, before the Vancouver Canucks took on the Utah Hockey Club, Rick Tocchet meet with the press and gave the update, which revealed that Chytill sustained a concussion and was going to be held of the lineup for protocol.
Tocchet also added that they will see how Chytil feels over the next 48 hours before determining if he will join the Canucks' on their upcoming six-game road trip.
Following the hit the 25-year old immediately hit the ice and was in visibly in pain as he stumbled his way back to the Canucks bench and down to the locker room. On Sunday afternoon, the NHL Department of Player Safety made a very shocking call on the play, one that many fans don't agree with.
Given Chytil's concussion history, it is undoubtedly concerning that the 2017 first-round pick is back in protocol, considering many fans and others alike believe Chytil shouldn't continue playing and should prioritize his health.
Chytil was acquired by the Canucks from the New York Rangers as a part of the J.T. Miller trade back in January. In 15 games with the Canucks since the trade, Chytil has two goals, six points, and a minus-11 rating. This is after he had 11 goals, 20 points, and a plus-4 rating in 41 contests with the Rangers before the trade.
