The crew drama has been almost exclusively an interior one this season on Below Deck Mediterranean. Both Elena Dubaich and Bri Muller were vying for a deckhand’s attention at first. It turned a power trip on in Ellie, who then tried to police the laundry room situation.
But finally, in the most recent episode, it felt like the girls came to a truce and there would be peace. However, Captain Sandy Yawn’s announcement of a fourth stew’s arrival threw drama back into the mix.
The new stew “outranks” Bri Muller and Elena Dubaich
“Completely unnecessary,” Ellie said after Sandy announced Carrie O’Neill’s addition to the boat in this week’s episode. “F-cking ridiculous.” SHOCKING.
Already feeling like she hasn’t been appreciated by chief stew Aesha Scott, Ellie said in confessional, “Where is this coming from? Do we need a new stew? It better be a f-cking laundry stew.”
Bri also seemed less than enthusiastic and weighed in to say, “I just know that I don’t want drama…I’m working on maturing.”
Aesha is the only interior crew excited with the news, but then again, she’s been single-handedly keeping the team afloat all season. She told producers that her “life is going to get so much easier.”
“Someone new coming on board is good because I’m being spread way too thin,” she explained. “But I know it’s going to affect the dynamics of the crew. Ellie is seething in her cabin and I feel like this could mark the point where things go south with us. It could blow everything up. But at this point, I don’t care. I need the help.”
Indeed, Ellie is giving off the vibes that she feels her authority is threatened. The rank of any incoming crew is always an issue. I’m sorry, remind me of Ellie’s authority in the first place…
In a preview for Episode 14, Aesha calls a team meeting, in which she acknowledged that Carrie outranked both Ellie and Bri.
“Carrie outranks Ellie and Bri easily with her experience,” Aesha said in the sneak peek. “But I don’t want to upset anyone, so she’s just like, my floater.”
She added, “I feel like I can finally uphold this Med standard, which is what I’ve wanted this whole season.”
Aesha is a pro at mitigating emotional risks within her team, that’s for sure. But there is sure to be drama.
