The moment Below Deck Mediterranean fans have been waiting for has finally arrived: Captain Sandy Yawn’s proposal to then-girlfriend Leah Shafer! Even though fans know the two were married back in May, the Bravo series has teased the sunset proposal and engagement all season long as Captain Sandy tasked Chief Stew Aesha with prepping for the big day. While the two got their happily ever after, we still haven’t seen how it all came to pass.
Is it possible that all of Scott’s careful planning was for naught because of a marina mishap? This exclusive clip begins with Scott and deckhead Gael Cameron finishing their preparation for the big event on the beach as the rest of the crew arrives to watch Captain Sandy’ propose. “I’m going to go up and grab them,” says Scott. “Can you pour Sandy a tea and Leah a champagne?” As Cameron gets to work, the other yachties pull up in a van. “I’ve got the Beyoncé dress on, and I’m a god damn queen,” says stew Elena Dubiach excitedly.
The group piles out of the vehicle as Scott shows them to where they can watch while not being seen by Captain Sandy or Shafer. “We have to be hidden and not ruin their moment at all,” Scott reminds them. Meanwhile, Captain Sandy and Shafer arrive at the marina where they are meeting lead deckhand Joe Bradley for a tender ride to their romantic beach setup. As Bradley helps the women into the tender, he notes the intensifying wind. As he struggles to launch the tender, Captain Sandy helpfully advises, “I would come back around and I would go that way.”
Suddenly, a distressing noise comes from the motor. “Oh, we’ve got a line,” says Captain Sandy. They lift up the motor to look at the blade and discover a tangle of discarded lines. “This is a massive fuck up,” confides Bradley via a voiceover. The camera then cuts to Bradley in his confessional. “Oh my god, have I just ruined Captain’s day?”
With only an hour until sunset, Captain Sandy and Bradley see that the second motor blade also has ropes wrapped around it. “Fuck, it’s inoperable,” says Captain Sandy. “This is terrible.” Quickly, Bradley goes to look for a knife in the tender’s tool kit. “Fuck,” says Bradley as he finds only a pair of scissors. As he begins to saw away at the lines, Captain Sandy assures him it’s not his fault. “There are lines everywhere,” explains Captain Sandy. “Who does that in a marina?”
“Right now, I’m stressed,” continues Captain Sandy in her confessional. “The sun’s getting ready to set in 30 minutes. He’s gotta get the line out; otherwise I’m gonna be proposing in the dark.”
