Chris Baker looked back on his time with Vanderpump Rules cast member Lala Kent on the set of their 2020 film, The Estate, while appearing on a podcast on Tuesday.
Just over a year after the film’s release, Chris explained why she likely wouldn’t do a read of the script, revealed it was actually her gig on Pump Rules that got her the job, and admitted to feeling that Andy Cohen flirted with him during his past appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
“I didn’t read with her. She would not read,” Chris explained on the February 1 episode of Behind the Velvet Rope With David Yontef. “I think with certain people, their reps just kind of say like, ‘She doesn’t read or he doesn’t read, it’s just a straight offer.'”
According to Chris, Lala did read the script herself, and after doing so, she appeared on a video call.
“She was like, ‘This is awesome. Like, I’ve totally, I totally want to play your sister. Like I am in, you guys are perverts. Like I love it.’ And we were so happy,” he recalled, revealing she was cast as an “Only Fans-type girl.”
“She was perfect. And she did all her own stunts,” he shared. “She has a fight scene with us with a dildo and it is just wild to watch. And she did all of her own stuff. It was great.”
While Lala had appeared in several films prior, including The Row, Vault, and Trauma Center, Chris said it was the fact that director James Kapner‘s wife was a Pump Rules viewer that secured her position in The Estate.
“It was the director’s idea to have her because his wife… I talk to her all the time about Bravo,” Chris explained. “She was like, ‘You know who should play this? Lala Kent.’ And as soon as James said that, I was like, ‘Yes.'”
“We wrote her, I think, a cover letter saying how much we’d loved her in the show over the years. And so she was just very receptive,” he added.
Once Lala arrived on set, sans now-ex-fiancé Randall Emmett (who Chris believes gave Lala the “green light” to appear in the film), Chris said the reality star didn’t hesitate to ask everyone on set “if they’d gotten this done or this done or this done” and questioned Chris about his lips.
Chris also weighed in on Lala and Randall’s recent split, saying he wasn’t surprised by the news.
“No, not because I know anything but no… I think it’s a miracle if any [reality] couple stays together, frankly,” he noted.
As for his past appearance on WWHL, Chris said he remembers Andy was “so nice” and “really sweet.”
“He never made me feel uncomfortable. And I just really loved hanging out with him. He’s a wonderful person,” Chris gushed.
That said, Chris did feel that Andy was a bit flirty.
“I feel like he hit on me in a certain way, but in not in a way where, like I was like rolling my eyes or anything,” he explained. “And, but maybe someone told him that I had just gotten married… I was very flattered that he paid attention to me at all.”
