The Avalanche loaned Kaapo Kahkonen to the Americal Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles on Thursday.
The goaltender finally joined the Avs last week after dealing with visa issues following his waiver claim two weeks ago. He has not yet played a game this season.
Kahkonen, 27, signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Winnipeg Jets over the summer after splitting the 2023-24 season between the San Jose Sharks and the New Jersey Devils. He was beaten by Eric Comrie in training camp for the backup role to reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck. Kahkonen was placed on waivers on the second day of the regular season and the Avs picked him up after starter Alexandar Georgiev and backup Justus Annunen both struggled in an 8-4 opening night loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.
