Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio has become the latest person to drag Blue Origin’s all-female space flight.
Colicchio stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse for Thursday night’s (April 24) episode of Watch What Happens Live alongside fellow Top Chef judges Kristen Kish and Gail Simmons. Host Andy Cohen enlisted him in a game of “Does! Tom! Like It?!” during which his co-stars had to guess if he enjoyed various pop culture phenomena.
When Cohen asked if he liked the ideas of “celebrities going into space,” referring to Blue Origin’s recent all-female flight that included Katy Perry, Gayle King, and Lauren Sánchez, Colicchio subtly shook his head.
“Tom, that was big for women, right?” Cohen sarcastically asked, to which Colicchio replied, “No, it wasn’t actually.”
Many other celebrities have also come out against the costly flight, which took place earlier this month.
While appearing on the April 4 episode of Today With Jenna & Friends, actress Olivia Munn slammed the “gluttonous” expedition, saying, “I know this is probably not the cool thing to say but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now… What are you guys gonna do up in space?”
She added, “It’s so much money to go to space and there’s a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs.”
Model Emily Ratajkowski also vocalized her feelings in a TikTok video.
“You say that you care about Mother Earth, and it’s about Mother Earth, and you go up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that is single-handedly destroying the planet,” she said.”Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what?”
King, for her part, said she was “disappointed” and “saddened” by the backlash.
“I also say this, what it’s doing to inspire other women and young girls, please don’t ignore that,” she told Entertainment Tonight, per the New York Post. “Space is not an either/or. It’s a both/and. And because you do something in space doesn’t mean you’re taking anything away from Earth.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
