Andy Cohen Is “White-Knuckling” His Way Through “Boring” Dry January — Even Though He's Still Taking Edibles

Andy Cohen is dishing on his Dry January.

The Watch What Happens Live host, who subbed in for Mark Consuelos on Live with Kelly and Mark this morning, told Kelly Ripa that he ‘s “in the middle of Dry January,” which he deemed “boring.”

Ripa inquired, “But are you ‘dry dry?’ Like, are you taking edibles?'”

After Cohen openly admitted that he is, Ripa teased, “So you’re not really dry.”

Cohen claimed, “Well, I’m not drinking. Listen, it feels like I’m white-knuckling it. I’m California sober, yes. I’m California sober… For the month of January, and maybe a little beyond.”

Cohen said that he typically experiences some weight loss after taking on the challenge, but lamented, “that’s not really happening yet.”

Ripa reminded Cohen that she had anticipated “this windfall of weight loss” when she quit drinking, which was not the case for her.

“Everybody’s like, ‘Well, you are going to get skinny… You can’t afford to lose it,'” she recalled. “I gained 12 pounds! I was like, I don’t understand this magical weight loss that people apply.”

Nonetheless, Ripa teased that she “took to eating the sugars,” noting that “alcohol is a lot of sugar … You don’t really realize when it goes in. It tastes kind of bitter.”

Toward the end of their host chat, Ripa and Cohen mentioned their longevity segment about “simple changes can help you live longer.”

Ripa told her co-host, “You’ve already done one. You’re not drinking alcohol. And that’s a very simple change.”

“I doubled my edible intake,” Cohen joked, before adding, “I’m kidding.”

“Did you take an edible before the show?” Ripa asked, but Cohen denied doing so, emphasizing that he “actually would never ” take one “before going on television.”

“Well, Gelman takes like three a day,” Ripa joked, ribbing Live EP Michael Gelman, who shook his head no. “One before the show, one before the production meeting, and one before the second production meeting. I believe that’s how it goes.”

Ripa then teased that the edible hadn’t yet “kicked in,” pointing out Gelman’s shaking legs.

Gelman played along as he chimed in, “I wouldn’t be shaking like this.”
