On Sunday the Yankees declined their $5 million club option on Lou Trivino, who becomes a free agent.
The righty reliever arrived in the 2022 trade that also brought Frankie Montas to The Bronx, and neither stayed healthy.
Trivino pitched well in 25 games following the trade — plus entered four games in that year’s postseason and did not give up a run — but he has not pitched in the majors since Game 3 of that season’s ALCS.

Trivino suffered an elbow strain the following spring and eventually required Tommy John surgery in May 2023.
The Yankees nontendered Trivino last offseason but brought him back at a lower price point with a club option for 2025, which has been declined after Trivino didn’t pitch this year.
The now 33-year-old suffered several setbacks and did not begin a rehab assignment until mid-August.
He pitched to a 4.91 ERA in 11 minor league games and was not called up.

He now will join Clay Holmes, Tommy Kahnle, Jonathan Loaisiga and Tim Hill as former Yankees relievers on the open market.
