In a new RHOC preview, Emily Simpson opens up about her body image issues.
The Real Housewives of Orange County fans know that Emily Simpson is as confident as they come, but she's also not afraid to discuss her insecurities as she does in the above preview for Season 18, Episode 10 of RHOC (set to air Sept. 12).
The sneak peek, more specifically, shows Emily feeling disappointed after seeing what she'll be wearing in Heather Dubrow's charity fashion show: the same dress as Alexis Bellino, and later, an oversized jacket and jeans.
Although she acts gracious, the wardrobe decision triggers something in Emily, which she tries to explain in a confessional interview.
"If you put Alexis in a dress and it's tiny, and me in a dress and it's big, I don't feel like everyone else," the attorney says. "[And] I've always been insecure about my arms. So, when I hear 'oversized,' it just immediately triggers a sensitive subject for me of like, 'Oh, because your arms can't fit into, like, a normal size.'"
Later, while getting ready, Emily also asks Gina Kirschenheiter how "big" she looks in the dress she's wearing.
"It fits you really well," responds her friend.
Emily, however, is still doubting herself, telling Gina, "She told me to bring jeans, but then everybody else has black pants on. I feel like I had to bring my own jeans because they didn't have pants big enough to fit me."
While Gina says this isn't the case — they made the black pants to size and everyone around them has a different body type — Emily still feels "sad."
"I almost was questioning myself. Like, am I crazy?" she explains in a confessional. "Have I lost weight? Do I look different? Am I the same? Am I delusional? It hurts my heart."
Emily Simpson previously discussed her relationship with her body
In the past, Emily has spoken openly about her relationship with her body. Throughout Season 18, she's discussed her passion for the gym and, in September 2023, she shared some insight on her Instagram following a 40 pound weight loss.
“Just to be clear though… I rocked a bathing suit on TV for 5 years and never felt ugly or not-confident in myself or my body. Not once. I am the strongest (mentally and physically) right now … at age 47 …and I will continue to improve myself daily. My only competition is Me,” she said. “Thank you for following this journey with me and for those of you who are always kind and comment positive things … I appreciate you! For the haters out there.. I love you too! You motivate me daily to lift harder and eat better.”
