Igor Shesterkin's contract demands remain the big story because we're also talking about the relation between greed and its effect on the future Rangers lineup.
Bear in mind, no matter what happens, Iggy will not go to the Poorhouse.
The worst case scenario would find the Rangers refusing Igor's demand to become the highest-paid Ranger and the best-paid goaltender in the NHL.
In the meantime, local hockey writers battle it out for the next Shesty scoop of the day.
My former beloved intern Arthur Staple of the Athletic scored a beat the other day with the revelation that the Rangers high command and Shesty's camp are miles apart in terms of contract agreement.
In addition, Staple pointed out that no negotiations will happen unless an agreement is hammered out before the season starts.
Meanwhile, the Post's Larry Brooks jumped into the fray yesterday (Wednesday) telling Rangers fans not-to-worry – a contract will happen even if it's at the Twelfth hour.
Brooks makes it seem as if Shesterkin will get EVERYTHING he wants ostensibly because the Rangers are lost without him. Meantime, they have NOT won a Cup with him.
My old pal, Kevin Greenstein from Inside Hockey notes, "Shesterkin is 23-20 in the playoffs."
The playoffs are what counts. I repeat, Czar Igor does not deserve more than $10 mil and that's that.
He should not get a pact that enables him to get a 13.04 percent of a $192 million Cap.
That inevitably damages Drury's chances for quality player additions.
I also notice that nobody seems to equate a monster Shesterkin contract with another potential raise in Rangers ticket prices.
The outright demand that Igor become the highest-paid goalie may very well be met by MSG moguls. Who knows? Crazier things have happened.
If so, The Maven says, good for Iggy; and good for his agent.
Likewise, bad for Rangers economics, bad for logic and worse for the fans who, in the end, will pay for it.
