In 2025, Davante Adams and Jimmy Garoppolo will be teammates for the second time with the Los Angeles Rams. The first time they played together was with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023.
It was clear that Adams had a pretty low opinion of Jimmy G that season. He indicated as much on Netflix’s “Receiver” documentary when he admitted that he signed off on Garroppolo’s benching for Aidan O’Connell.
“I signed off on that. And that’s just the reality of it,” Adams said during the episode. “You know, I love Jimmy and he’s a great guy, but something had to happen in order for us to have a chance down the stretch and in order for me to remain a Raider, in all honesty.”
But in his newest comments on ESPN LA’s Sedano and Kap show, Adams was very complimentary of Garoppolo and blamed the Raiders organization for his past beef with Jimmy G.
“It’s amazing,” Adams said about playing with Garoppolo again. “I love Jimmy. It was never a personal thing, and I was hoping we didn’t have to have these [conversations] — I’m surprised this is the first time it’s been brought up. It’s been amazing. We got to catch up and get on the right page.”
“Obviously, that was just a dark moment in all of our lives. I think all of us were pretty miserable over there. And we kind of caught up and laughed about it and we’ve been making plays since we’ve been out here, so it’s been fun.”
The Raiders have obviously moved on from the organizational leadership that was in place in 2023, but comments like this can still be hard for Raider fans to hear.
Back at Rams OTAs, Davante Adams used an opportunity to both praise the Rams and trash the Raiders.
“I feel like this is what I needed just based off the vibe and the aura of the building,” Adams said on signing with the Raiders, via the Rams’ official website. “And everybody’s in a good mood. It’s not like a dark cloud over the building. And I’ve experienced that quite a bit over the last few years. So, it’s a glaring difference when you come into a building like this.”
Adams reportedly had issues with the way the Raiders handled his contract as well as how they moved on from the quarterback he went to Las Vegas to team up with, his good friend Derek Carr.
Raiders fans are typically annoyed with Adams’s comments, urging him to move on and focus on his new team.
Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t signed by the Rams to be their starting quarterback. They already have a very good QB in Matthew Stafford. He’ll probably only take the field if Stafford gets injured or the Rams press him into service during garbage time.
So it’s unlikely that football fans will see Garoppolo throwing at all this season. It’s less likely that he will throw to Adams during a game.
Adams, on the other hand, is looking to put together his 7th year of 1,000 yards receiving in the past 8 seasons. Alongside Puka Nacua, Adams gives the Rams one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL.
The Rams are looking to return to the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons and they hope Adams can be just the player they need to return to the Super Bowl, which they won just four seasons ago.
Raiders fans, are you tired of Davante Adams’s comments? Do you wish any Raiders like Maxx Crosby who were there during that time would fire back and defend the organization?
