Brock Purdy has banished the 'Mr Irrelevant' tag to the history books.
But despite thriving in a talented San Francisco 49ers offense, the 24-year-old still has plenty of doubters.
Chosen with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy's size and pedigree have been questioned, with many claiming he only succeeded because of a perfect landing spot.
He was thrust into action when Jimmy Garoppolo went down against the Miami Dolphins in Week 13.
After throwing for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick, Purdy starred in a rout of Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his first NFL start in Week 14.
49ers teammate Nick Bosa spoke to talkSPORT'S Will Gavin about Purdy and revealed when he became a believer in the young passer.
"Obviously there's a stigma with him when it comes to the fact he was a late pick and he's a smaller guy," he explained.
"I don't know exactly what it's about, but people just kind of think of him as somebody who got lucky maybe and came to a really good team and the supporting cast is what makes him.
"But I don't know how many more times he has to prove people wrong because he's done it.
"And even myself, when Jimmy went down I thought our season was over, well not over, but I thought our chances were definitely not looking too good.
"And then he played great that Dolphins game. I'm like, all right, that was good.
"But then he dominates against Tom Brady and just keeps proving me, the whole team, the whole country, and world wrong.
"He's just a very humble kid and he doesn't let any outside noise get to him. So we got lucky with him for sure."
Purdy was injured in a defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2022 NFL Championship game.
He returned a year later to lead his team to the Super Bowl, where they were beaten by Patrick Mahomes' formidable Kansas City Chiefs.
The rising star has completed 84 of 122 passes this season for 1,130 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Respected ESPN analyst Mina Kimes thinks he is showing the best form of his career.
“His season right now, compared to last, is such a great example of why quarterback stats are bulls*** because he is playing the best football of his career right now, in my opinion,” she said.
“When I watch the tape, I see more impressive plays by him this season.
"He is really good at making plays outside of structure. He has been accurate throwing downfield.
"I have been so impressed by him this season.”
The plays Kimes described are the ones that turn a good quarterback into a great one.
Purdy will hope to prove her right in an NFC West Showdown with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
