"Way too soft": Ex-NFL MVP Boomer Esiason rips into New York Rangers after succumbing to 4th straight loss

The New York Rangers lost their fourth consecutive game on Wednesday night. What was once a promising campaign has lately turned sour. This caught the attention of former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason, who called out the team after the latest defeat.

Via Sportscasting, Esiason blasted the Rangers:

“Can’t beat a third-string goalie. Way too soft and too many lulls in the game and lost board battles. Effort matters.”

He also compared the team to another New York squad that's played poorly this year: the New York Giants. Esiason said after Monday's loss to the St. Louis Blues:

“The team is soft. This is like getting Giant-esque. The team is obviously not responding to coach.”

The Carolina Hurricanes, one of the NHL's top teams right now, are the latest team to beat the Rangers. New York held a 3-2 lead with Carolina on its third-string goalie, but the Hurricanes charged back for a win and kept the Rangers' spiral going.

After losing their fourth game in a row to a team they've historically played well against, the New York Rangers are searching for answers. Captain Jacob Trouba didn't have any, but he tried to address the issue.

He said, via the New York Post:

“We’re going through a little bit of adversity as a group. Everybody knows it’s probably a better effort for us, but there’s not really any moral victories at this level. We’ve got to keep grinding, keep putting the work in and turn this thing around as a group.”

The Rangers were outshot for the seventh time in the 12 games during November last night. Head coach Peter Laviolette said that the Hurricanes "found a way in the third" period and earned a win.

The Canes scored two goals in the third to win, dropping the Rangers to 12-8-1 on the season that left them in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division. They're now eight points back of the Hurricanes in the division and are clinging to a low-seed playoff spot right now.
