Vikings waive TE Nick Muse on his birthday

It comes just two days after Minnesota activated the tight end from injured reserve.

Just a couple of days after activating him from injured reserve, the Minnesota Vikings have waived tight end Nick Muse.

Minnesota made the move Monday afternoon, a day after Muse played 22 snaps against the Chicago Bears, although only five of those were on offense.

It also came on Muse's birthday, just hours after the team had posted a "Happy Birthday" message to him. He was a good sport, though, joking on social media that it made him part of NFL history.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end was a seventh-round pick of the Vikings' in 2022 but he hasn't gotten much run in the NFL, posting just one catch for 22 yards in his career thus far.

Muse made Minnesota's roster out of training camp but suffered a broken bone in his hand in Week 2 against San Francisco. He was placed on injured reserve and missed the Vikings' next eight games before the team activated him on Saturday and waived cornerback Akayleb Evans.

It wouldn't be surprising to see the Vikings try to get Muse on the practice squad, but if Josh Oliver is good to go, Minnesota's top three tight ends are all set and Robert Tonyan is also on the practice squad.

We'll see what the Vikings do with their open roster spot. They could always elevate someone else or bring in a free agent — they have been rumored to have interest in new free agent quarterback Daniel Jones. Head coach Kevin O'Connell was asked about Jones and declined to get into the team's interest but said, “I’ve been a fan of Daniel’s for a long time."
