Vikings DC Brian Flores linked to Bears head coaching job

Flores has worked wonders for Minnesota's defense and is now drawing some interest from a division rival.

The Minnesota Vikings have a lot to focus on as a win on Sunday night would earn them the top seed in the NFC and a first-round bye in the playoffs while a loss would drop them to the fifth seed and a road matchup the following weekend.

Minnesota's coaches and players have really bought into a day-by-day approach, but outside of the building, others are looking at the possibility that defensive coordinator Brian Flores could be on the move next year.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer provided the latest on the NFL coaching carousel and noted that Flores is under consideration for the Chicago Bears job.

While Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson seems to be the frontrunner for that job, it's not yet clear that Johnson would take it if offered, and as Chicago continues to evaluate its options, Flores is one of the candidates.

Breer noted that Flores was a teammate of Bears general manager Ryan Poles at Boston College in 2003 and the two both have roots in the Bill Belichick system. Bears president Kevin Warren's connection also appears to be a factor.

"I’m also told that Warren’s vetting of Flores with all his old connections in Minnesota (Warren worked for the Vikings for 15 years) yielded strong reviews for the 43-year-old," Breer added. "He will, of course, have to lay out a plan for how things would be different with Williams than they were with Tua Tagovailoa in Miami."

Flores has worked wonders for Minnesota's defense over the past two seasons and has received rave reviews from his players and fellow coaches. While the Vikings obviously want the best for Flores, the team and fans should hope that he sticks around for the foreseeable future.
