Tortillas are meant to be eaten, but Shedeur Sanders proved they can also be used for something other than a wrap for a burrito. The Texas Tech tradition of throwing tortillas witnessed history on Saturday.
Lubbock, Texas, the home of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, has an iconic history. Before every game, they bring tortillas for tailgating, and they throw them to celebrate victory.
However, they welcomed #21-ranked Colorado with their iconic gesture. Instead of throwing debris, Texas fans threw tortillas on the field. Colorado’s Travis Hunter even picked one up, put it in his pants and lined up for scrimmage in the first half.
Despite the distraction, the Buffaloes recorded a comfortable 41-27 win over the Red Raiders. After the game, Shedeur Sanders signed one of the tortillas and posted a snap on social media.
Sanders ended the game with 30/43 completed passes for 291 yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 9 carries for 16 yards, and 1 rushing touchdown. Hunter caught nine passes for 99 yards for one score. After the touchdown, Hunter celebrated like Kai Cenat did in one of his Twitch streams.
Shedeur Sanders lost one of his Colorado teammates because of tortillas
There may have been incidents of people slipping on wet tortillas while walking through streets, but on a football field? That’s perhaps never heard of. Apparently, it happened in the first half during the Texas Tech-Colorado game.
Colorado wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., who is also the primary punt and kick returner for the team, slipped and ended up in the medical tent. According to Sports Illustrated’ Taylor Sadusky, Horn suffered a low body injury, which was confirmed by Buffaloes Wire.
Several X users speculated that Horn’s injury was caused by a stray tortilla on the ground, and unlike Hunter, he was in no position to pick it up.

However, it’s unclear the reason as there are no videos available as evidence of the incident. Horn will be checked for further injury once the Buffaloes return to Denver.
In the meantime, the Buffaloes’ win over Texas Tech guarantees Deion Sanders’ team a first post-season appearance for the first time since 2016. Coach Prime has definitely changed the trajectory of the Colorado program.
Two players (Shedeur and Hunter) are in the mix for the Heisman Trophy and may end up as top 10 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Buffaloes are currently third in the Big 12 with a 7-2 record, behind BYU (8-0) and Iowa State Cyclones (7-2). Next week, the Buffs will welcome #16th-ranked Utah State to Folsom Park.
