A free agent name that has been linked to the New York Rangers is forward Tyler Toffoli.
The Rangers could be looking to make some moves this offseason with Chris Drury’s “nothing is off the table” mentality.
By getting rid of Barclay Goodrow’s contract, the Rangers have some more money to spend, which makes them an intriguing destination for unrestricted free agents.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman talked about the possibility of Toffoli making his way to New York.
“I can see Toffoli being a guy who's on the Rangers radar too with the money that they got with Goodrow off.”
Toffoli played the majority of this past season with the New Jersey Devils, but was traded to the Winnipeg Jets at the trade deadline.
Through 79 games, the 32-year-old forward had 33 goals, 22 assists and 55 points.
With the Rangers, Toffoli could really thrive. He is the type of player that when paired with the right amount of talent, is a threat to score at any point.
The veteran forward is a pure goalscorer, with a powerful shot. Toffoli can easily slide in as a top-six forward for New York and would certainly help propel the Rangers’ offense.
Skating wise, Toffoli does not possess the most speed and is generally elevated by the players around him, so it will be interesting to see if he would fit well with the Blueshirts.
The free agent frenzy is just days away and this won’t be the last rumor when it comes to the Rangers and their potential targets.
