Trump official reveals major detail ahead of Philadelphia Eagles' White House visit - suong

The Eagles have accepted an invite to the White House following their Super Bowl win - 'enthusiastically' so - according to a Trump official.

It was previously rumored that the Eagles, who also skipped out on a visit with President Trump following their last championship in 2018, would be doing the same this time around.

But it was confirmed to CBS News Philadelphia on Monday that Philly would be making the trip after all, with an Eagles spokesperson adding that the franchise was in talks with the White House about a date.

Trump said last month that the Eagles would be receiving an invitation, though he added that had yet to happen at the time.

'I thought it was a great [Super Bowl] performance by them,' he said. 'Absolutely, they'll be extended that invitation... We'll do that right away. We're going to do it sometime today. They deserve to be down here and we hope to see them.'

While the Eagles' last scheduled visit to the White House was technically canceled by the Trump administration, the move came after Philadelphia were hesitant to visit the President, who had criticized players protesting during the national anthem.

At a 2017 rally, Trump said that the protests were 'hurting the game,' and said NFL owners should fire players who did so.

Malcolm Jenkins, then of the Eagles, was among the NFL players at the time to protest, as he would raise his fist during the anthem. Rodney McLeod did the same.

Ultimately, the Eagles had decided on sending a small group of less than 10 players - as NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported at the time - before the White House canceled the visit.

The news of the Eagles' forthcoming visit comes as three of the team's key contributors moved to different franchises on Monday.

After the legal tampering period began, news broke that defensive tackle Milton Williams had agreed to a massive, four-year, $104 million deal that includes $63 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

He later reported that linebacker Josh Sweat reached an agreement on a four-year deal worth $76.4 million, including $41 million guaranteed with the Arizona Cardinals.

Cornerback Darius Slay, who was released by Philly after the team's Super Bowl win over the Chiefs, is also headed to the Steelers, as per Jordan Schultz.
