Trade Proposed: New York Rangers to trade for veteran defenseman from the San Jose Sharks

The New York Rangers should consider trading for veteran defenseman Mario Ferraro of the San Jose Sharks. Here's why GM Chris Drury should make the move.Mario Ferraro

The New York Rangers will need to upgrade the left side of their defensive core this July. Whether or not that means trading former 1st-round pick K'Andre Miller, it's something to consider.
Given the oncoming salary cap crunch, the likelihood of Miller being traded could be a reality come July.
Though if Miller goes through with arbitration and can be retained by the Rangers at a reasonable cost, the team could look at making Carson Soucy expendable.
As more and more teams get eliminated from the playoffs, more options become available to add to the blue line.
Who could the Rangers look to add to bolster the blue line?

Mario Ferraro

The San Jose Sharks' Mike Grier and GM Chris Drury are already trade partners, given the deal they've worked out with Barclay Goodrow, the relationship has been established.
The Sharks are undergoing a youth movement, and could use someone who could help on the power-play.
Here's where the Rangers could utilize Zac Jones, as someone who could keep fresh blood flowing into San Jose. If they send Jones to San Jose, and in order to acquire him, the Rangers could, in return, receive shutdown, left-shot defenseman Mario Ferraro.
They might have to attach Juuso Parssinen, and a draft pick with Zac Jones to get the deal done.
Ferraro would fulfill a similar role to Ryan Lindgren with the Blueshirts.
a heart-and-soul player with a serious edge to his game. He's durable and eats up 21-23 minutes a night.

Last season, Ferraro played over 1,400 minutes 5v5, more than 300 more than any other Sharks player. The Sharks were miserable, but Ferraro held his own in a bad situation.

Ferraro is a pending UFA and only earns $3.25 million against the Sharks' cap, and could be easily absorbed by the Rangers, wouldn't have to push out any RFAs, if they trade away Jones or Soucy.
Nothing is certain, though as the team could extend him into 2026 and make him Captain. But first things first, GM Chris Drury needs to pick up the phone.
