Trade Pitch Between Contenders Would Send $9 Million Lions Veteran to Bills

A new Detroit Lions trade pitch would see them send a $9 million veteran to the Buffalo Bills in a deal between contenders.
The Detroit Lions' cornerback room haas gotten pretty crowded this offseason.

They entered the offseason with Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Amik Robertson, and Morice Norris set to return from the 2024 roster.

Over the last couple of weeks, they've re-signed Khalil Dorsey and added D.J. Reed, Avonte Maddox, and Rock Ya-Sin.

The team's new depth at the position has Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox thinking one of the players returning from last year's roster could be a trade candidate.

In an article discussing one trade each contender should make to fill their biggest weakness, Knox pitched the idea that the Buffalo Bills should trade for Robertson.

Robertson finds himself in a bit of a tough spot on the Lions' roster right now.

The Reed signing ensured he wouldn't be a starter in 2025. The other moves don't change much for him aside from adding options to the rotation.

Really his biggest problem is that he is currently the third option at best and Rakestraw could be coming to take that spot.

If the Lions end up deciding Rakestraw is ready to be the CB3, that would leave Robertson looking at a much smaller role for the last year of his current contract.

Meanwhile, the Bills could use a corner. They finished near the middle of the league in yards allowed per passing attempt, allowing 7.1 this past season. Then Rasul Douglas hit the free agent market after starting 15 games for them last season.

The Lions seem very unlikely to give up depth at any position unless they absolutely have to after they were depleted by injuries in 2024.

However, there could be another free agent they are interested in or a draft prospect they like who could make a move more plausible.

For now, I don't see the Lions trading Robertson, but there is still a lot of offseason left and the Bills would make sense as a trade partner if the Lions decide to deal Robertson.
