Tommy Fury Speaks Out About His Role Being Edited Down in Molly-Mae Hague’s Series, Admitting to Feeling Used and Disrespected - suong

After confirming their reunion in March, Love Island's Molly-Mae Hague finally opened up about her relationship with Tommy Fury for the first time last week in the second instalment of her Amazon show, Molly-Mae: Behind It All.

Fans were delighted to see Molly-Mae, 25, back on our screens, but insiders say that Tommy has been left feeling less than impressed about how he’s been portrayed – while she’s come out smelling of roses.

‘Tommy confided that the new series is not how he wanted to be edited. He still feels like an addition in the show – not a key player,’ a source tells Closer. ‘Tommy feels he’s done eating humble pie, and now wants to be let off the hook. He’s frustrated and feels like everything is being drawn out so they can cash in on a bad time.

‘Admittedly, this series shares the good too, but the celebrations are surrounding how well Molly-Mae is doing – with no time given to reflect on how far he has come, too. But pals think Tommy is being over-sensitive about how he’s being portrayed. He thinks he’s been set up in a bad light to make Molly-Mae look better, which isn’t true. He feels a bit used.’

The couple stole fans’ hearts after meeting on the fifth series of Love Island in 2019. They went on to welcome daughter Bambi in January 2023 before getting engaged six months later. However, they shocked followers when they announced their separation in August 2024.

After much speculation surrounding the split, including cheating allegations, Tommy revealed, ‘The reason why me and Molly broke up was because I got addicted to alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore. It kills me to say it, [but] it’s true, I couldn’t. People go through different things in life and we all have our crosses to bear. I’ve got mine.’

Molly-Mae also addressed Tommy’s problem with drink on the first series of her show at the beginning of the year. The influencer explained that she ‘never, ever wanted to be with someone who drank’ because her mum had a period when she struggled with alcohol after her divorce.

But tellingly, Molly-Mae also hinted that she was hopeful when it came to a future together, saying, ‘All I want in this life is to be with him and have another baby with him, to grow old as a family and to live in a nice house together and have a nice life together. It’s all I want.’

After months of rumours that the pair had rekindled their romance – including a kiss on New Year’s Eve – the couple are now back on track. In March, they confirmed they were giving things another go when they enjoyed a holiday to Dubai with Bambi. The family were later seen at Centre Parcs together, and last week, Molly-Mae – who has revealed they’re back living together in the £4.75 million Cheshire home they purchased before their split – paid tribute to Tommy on his 26th birthday. In a sweet post, she wrote on Instagram Stories, ‘Happy birthday to you. You make our little girl’s world light up.’

But while they’re back together, our source adds that Tommy feels he’s been given the ‘short straw’, as he’s had to deal with negative comments from Molly-Mae’s loyal fan base. ‘Tommy doesn’t like airing his private life as much as Molly-Mae is comfortable with,’ they say. ‘He gets that it’s what they signed up to, but what’s meant to be driving them forward has become a sticking point, as the focus is not positive on him.’

And they’re still very much working on their relationship. ‘Molly-Mae has no time to be pandering to Tommy if he is feeling hard done by, for a professional fighter, he doesn’t have a tough exterior!’ says our insider. ‘What Molly-Mae wants is for Tommy to see how lucky they are to have these opportunities and the cash in the bank. Despite Tommy wanting to be the star of his own shows and projects, they are set to rake it in for this one.

‘Molly-Mae is annoyed that Tommy is being hot-tempered and short-sighted. No one changes instantly overnight. She says the show is not about making him look bad – it is just the reality of what he did. Molly-Mae wanted to ensure the show was truthful, but in doing so, Tommy feels he’s being mugged off as a scapegoat. Tommy says they can’t move on as a couple if her fans still see him in a bad light, and he finds the Molly-Mae “noise” too much at times.’

Tommy also had a huge boxing match scheduled for 9 May in Budapest – the same day that Molly-Mae’s documentary aired – which meant he moved out of their mansion for training, once again leaving his partner on her own.

And last month, Closer reported how Molly-Mae is still worried about their future as a couple, as Tommy continues to overcome his struggles. ‘The love is still so strong, but the reality they are both facing head on is one they can’t avoid: Tommy’s addiction issues,’ a source told us at the time.

‘She knows that training is keeping Tommy on the straight, and that it’s the best thing for his mental health. But she can’t help but worry when he’s away from her or has big events, like the fight, because she knows that it’s a lot of pressure on him when he is still battling his demons.’
