Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes Start NFL Debate Ahead of Super Bowl LIX

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are heading back to the Super Bowl for a third-straight season after defeating Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game.

Mahomes had one of his better games of the season, completing 18-of-26 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions while adding 43 yards and another two scores on the ground.

With the win, Mahomes is heading to the fifth Super Bowl in his career, tied with Denver Broncos legend John Elway for the second-most Super Bowls played by a quarterback in NFL history. A win against the Philadelphia Eagles would also give the Chiefs quarterback his fourth ring, tied for the second-most in NFL history with former 49ers quarterback Joe Montana and Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw.

The only player to have more Super Bowl appearances and wins than all of the players mentioned above: former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Brady secured seven Super Bowl wins and ten appearances during his NFL career. He even nearly doubles Mahomes in postseason wins (35-17).

Although Mahomes has a long way to catch Brady in Super Bowl wins, NFL fans are already starting to put his name in the GOAT debates alongside Brady. They took to social media to share their thoughts.

"Stop comparing these current players to Patrick Mahomes. He's chasing Tom Brady. GOAT TALK," one fan said.

"Maybe I'm crazy, but I think we should probably wait until Patrick Mahomes has won even half as many Super Bowls as Tom Brady before we start calling him the GOAT," added another.

"Pretty crazy that Mahomes is challenging Brady’s legacy this quick. That many rings & appearances is something that shouldnt be replicated for like 50yrs. If Mahomes gets 4 in 5 including a 3PEAT, he’s right there to challenge Brady’s legacy only a couple yrs after his retirement," wrote a third.

"Move over Tom Brady. Move over Joe Montana. Patrick Mahomes has done something no other QB has ever done. See ya in New Orleans," commented a fourth.

"All im saying is Mahomes lost to BRADY in a h2h superbowl GAME. He not better than brady at all," posted a fifth.

"Tom Brady will always have the longevity argument but no QB has peaked higher than Patrick Mahomes in NFL history It’s not close either," added a sixth.

Brady and Mahomes went head-to-head six total times during their playing careers. Mahomes won three of the four regular-season meetings, but Brady went 2-0 in the playoffs, including a 31-9 win in Super Bowl LV.

The Chiefs will take on the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
