The Washington Commanders entered the Divisional round to play against a Detroit Lions team that was hailed as one of the best in the league. That meant head coach Dan Quinn would have to prepare his players to perform at their best.
Dan Quinn ‘s team started without much to show for as they trailed after the first quarter. Then, in the second quarter, they turned the tables around and went into the second half with a commanding lead. Even though the Detroit Lions came back in the third quarter, they managed to hold the lead.
Then, in the fourth, they forced turnovers and scored again to take the score up to 45-31 with just under five minutes to play. Sensing the game was all but over, Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris came down from his owner’s box to be beside his players. Seeing that, Tom Brady said this from the commentator’s booth.
Not sure coach Quinn likes owners coming down on the field before the game is over.
Tom Brady said
This was a cheeky reference to the last time an owner went down to the field when Dan Quinn was the head coach. The reference was to Super Bowl LI when Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank came down on to the field with his team up 28-3 with more than two minutes to go in the third quarter.
But then, Tom Brady and his New England Patriots started a comeback that saw them tying the game 28-28. The game went into overtime and the Patriots won to record the largest comeback in Super Bowl history. Brady was referencing to that while trying to troll Dan Quinn.
There are several instances in the NFL when a situation results in something that is a repeat of a past occurrence. Thankfully for Dan Quinn, the situation Tom Brady was referring to did not repeat. His Washington Commanders kept that score and finished the game to record a famous win.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels did not record a turnover or a sack against that formidable Detroit Lions defense. Instead, it was the Commanders defense that forced Jared Goff into three interceptions, one fumble and another interception of a trick play.
The Washington Commanders won a playoff game for the first time in nearly twenty years last week. Now this divisional round win becomes the first in 34 years since their last one. That last one culminated into their last Super Bowl win.
