During his call of Sunday’s NFL Playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, Tom Brady threw some humorous shade at fellow Fox NFL analyst, Mark Sanchez.
In the later stages of Philadelphia’s win, receiver A.J. Brown was seen sitting on the bench reading a book. As that’s far from a common sight on NFL sidelines, particularly during playoff games, Brady couldn’t help but comment.
“I haven’t seen too many people read books,” Brady said. “But I’ve seen a quarterback eat a hot dog.”
This is, of course, a reference to Sanchez. When Sanchez and the New York Jets took on the then-Oakland Raiders in 2009, cameras spotted Sanchez on the sideline eating a hot dog during New York’s 38-0 win.
Sanchez eating a hot dog during a game has an extra layer of humor in that Dan Dierdorf, then an analyst for CBS referenced Antonio Pierce — then a linebacker for the New York Giants — saying that playing the Raiders was like a bye week. Pierce, of course, would later coach the Raiders.
Later in the game, it was clarified that Brown was reading Inner Excellence, a book by Jim Murphy.
