There Are Reportedly Several Teams Interested In Acquiring Reilly Smith

Brad Penner-Imagn ImagesRumors continue to fly regarding Reilly Smith and his potential trade status.

The New York Rangers have held Smith out of the lineup since Sunday night’s game against the Nashville Predators due to roster management-related reasons.

It appears the Rangers are still attempting to find a trade partner, but that’s reportedly not because of a lack of interest among opposing teams.

“I'm also told there are several teams in on UFA Reilly Smith, who remains sidelined until a deal is complete,” ESPN’s Emily Kaplan wrote.

The Rangers have been clear that they are not in a place to let their unrestricted free agents walk without getting assets or players in return and that includes Smith who’s on an expiring contract.

However, Kaplan adds that the Rangers are not giving up on the season which has been evident with all of the trades the Blueshirts have made this year.

“Even though GM Chris Drury signaled he didn't feel his opening-night roster could win it all, a spot in the postseason, and that all-important playoff revenue, is still attainable in a season of transition,” Kaplan wrote.

The Rangers have until Friday afternoon to trade Smith.
