Brittany Cartwright’s marriage to Jax TaylorJax Taylor was more costly than fans first thought.
During the Tuesday, June 10, episode of The Valley, Brittany, 36, decided to meet with a divorce lawyer one day before Jax, 45, was scheduled to complete his time in a mental health treatment facility.
“With Jax getting out of the facility soon, I’m meeting with a lawyer to try to figure out what she thinks about the situation, tell her everything that’s going on,” she said in a confessional. “I think it’s the right time before he gets out.”
While sitting down with an attorney named Naz, Brittany described the financial struggles she faced during her relationship with Jax.
“He stopped paying our mortgage whenever I moved out, and I didn’t know that,” she claimed. “He’s always paid the mortgage, and I’ve always paid all the bills. He was so far behind on our taxes before we got married — I think it was $1.2 million behind or something crazy. He was going to go to jail if I didn’t allow him to put it on our house.”
According to Brittany, the mortgage on their home went from $8,000 to $17,000 “because of his stuff.”
After Jax found a new condo to rent during his separation, Brittany claimed “he wants me to take over the house completely,” referring to the mortgage payments.
Us has reached out to Jax’s rep for comment about the claims made in Tuesday’s episode. During a recent episode of The Valley After Show, Jax claimed he gave the house to his ex.

“The house is going to her. I gave it to her fully,” he alleged. “It’s gonna go in her name. The mortgage has been paid off. I paid it off while I was in rehab. I wrote a check.”
In regards to his past tax issues, Jax said he “made it clean, and now we’re good.”
“People make mistakes with taxes every single day,” he shared on the After Show. “I learned my lesson, had to re-mortgage [my house], and here we are. But I fixed it and I made it clean, and now we’re good.”
During this week’s episode, Brittany was asked to share what led her to make a trip to a lawyer’s office. She explained it was the “blow ups” she was experiencing with her estranged husband that she claimed kept getting “more and more aggressive.”
“He’s thrown furniture and punched walls,” she alleged, “but he hasn’t laid his hands on me.”
During the June 3 episode of The Valley, Jax acknowledged some mistakes he made with his estranged wife. “I also pushed her away. I pushed her away and I didn’t even f***ing see it,” he said in a phone call from the mental health facility. “I didn’t even realize what I was doing. I’ve gotten away with it for so long that I found this to be acceptable behavior and it’s obviously not.”
After listening to Brittany’s alleged experience, Naz suggested to the Vanderpump Rules alum that she file for divorce first. Later on in the episode, Brittany confirmed to Kristen Doute that she had submitted the required paperwork.
“I didn’t come into this meeting thinking I was going to file for divorce but this is making me realize, wow this is bad, and I need to get out of this,” Brittany explained in a confessional interview. “I’m just so terrified that I’m going to allow him to slowly make his way back into my life. … I just know deep down this is the right step to take.”
