The New York Rangers announced today that they have come to terms with forward Gabe Perreault, the team's 23rd overall draft pick in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft. He signed his entry-level contract, a three-year deal with the team, and will report to New York.
New York Rangers fans and pundits were wondering when and if Perreault would sign his ELC this season, or play another year with the Boston College Eagles.
Though it does seem like he accomplished everything he set out to do in the NCAA, as he has developed nicely during his two-seasons in Boston.
This year, he'd score a total of 48 points (16 goals, 32 assists) and 25 PIMs. He ranked fourth in the NCAA for assists and eighth in points-per-game this season with the Eagles.
Perreault was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, along named a Hockey First East-Team All Star.
His two seasons in Boston weren't a fluke, as the 5'11" 178-pound winger scored 108 points(35 goals, 75 assists).
Among all NCAA skaters over the last two seasons, Perreault ranked tied for second in assists and third in points. In his freshman season (2023-24), he skated in 36 games, posting 19 goals and 41 assists for 60 points along with a plus-24 rating.
Perreault earned a CCM/AHCA Second Team All-America, Hockey East Second Team-All Star, and a New England All-star during his two years with the Eagles.
Prior to starting his NCAA career, he'd play two seasons in the US Hockey National Team Development Program, where he'd register 185 points (71 goals, 114 assists) in 121 games.
His assist and point total both rank fourth all-time in program history. In his last season with the USNTDP, he collected 132 points (53G-79A), the most in a single season by any player in the history of the program
He'd also collect gold internationally in the 2024 & 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships and at the 2023 U-18 World Championships.
Perreault is a winger who could be a game-changer for the Rangers team that needs scoring talent.
He is set to make $941K AAV and will become an RFA at the expiry of the contract after the 2026-2027 season.
