Things are starting to crumble for the Cleveland Browns. The team sits currently at 3-11, and they have no future in sight with being strapped to a massive contract with Deshaun Watson. With all the turmoil, it’s now led to Myles Garrett being more vocal about his dislike with how the team is heading.
Garrett in a media scrum stated “I want the Browns to be able to put me and us in position to win. I’m not trying to rebuild. I’m trying to win right now. I want that to be apparent, when the season’s over and we have those discussions, I want them to be able to illuminate that for me”. “we choose to do a rebuild and it’s two, three, four years out, I want be able to compete and play at a high level, play meaningful games and be playing past January”.
Since being drafted in 2017, Garrett has been a staple player on the Browns defense, becoming a household name. Garrett has accumulated 526 pressures as well as 107 sacks over his career and has only missed just 30 tackles. Garrett is getting older, and won’t have much longer of a career. Garrett clearly wants to play for a contender, and with the Browns seemingly stuck in a rebuild, a trade will be on the horizon.
The team that he will be traded to is the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles have notoriously been known for finessing trades, and trading for Garrett would fall under the recent history Howie Roseman has had with successfully trading for star players. The Eagles have had a poor season in terms of generating pressure as they have just 98 pressures, which is the sixth-worst, but have 39 sacks. With Josh Sweat set to be a free agent, they have to find a way to replicate his production or be replaced with better if he can’t be brought back. They also whiffed on signing Bryce Huff as he has failed to produce like he did on the New York Jets. They need more assurance at the edge spot, and the best way to do so is by making a trade.
With Garret, plus Jalen Carter, and Nolan Smith on the defensive line, it would create problems for opposing offenses. The Eagles are contenders, and have the stability at the quarterback position with Jalen Hurts. With proven defensive success and overall success, it makes sense for Garrett to end up in Philadelphia, and it makes sense for the Eagles to add a star like Garrett to their defensive line.
