Teresa Giudice and husband Luis Ruelas are reportedly facing tax debt.
According to court documents obtained by People on Monday, March 24, the couple have received more than $3 million in tax liens, which is the government’s legal claim against a person’s property when there’s a failure to pay a tax debt, per the IRS.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey star, 52, owes $303,889.20. Ruelas’ amount nears $2.6 million. In December 2024, Ruelas, 49, was issued a lien for $163,523.94, per People. The lien is reportedly still an open case.
Us Weekly has reached out to Giudice for comment.
This is not the first time Giudice has dealt with debt in a marriage. In 2009, Teresa and her first husband, Joe Giudice, filed for bankruptcy, citing an $11 million debt. Five years later, the pair were indicted on 39 counts, including bankruptcy fraud. Teresa served 11 months of a 15-month sentence the following year.
“I wish I could do everything differently,” Teresa exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2014. “But then again, maybe not, because this is a life lesson that I need to learn and will learn, and will teach my children for the rest of my life, just as Judge Salas told me she expected me to do.”
Joe, for his part, served a 41-month prison sentence for bankruptcy fraud. He was subsequently deported to his native Italy following his 2019 release. (Joe currently resides in The Bahamas.)
After serving their time in prison, Teresa and Joe divorced after 20 years of marriage. The exes, who were childhood friends, were married for nearly two decades and share four daughters: Gia, 24, Gabriella, 20, Milania, 19 and Audriana, 15.
Following her split from Joe, Teresa began dating Ruelas. The couple tied the knot in August 2022 after nearly two years together. Before they walked down the aisle, Teresa made headlines when she revealed that she and Ruelas had no plans to sign a prenup.
