Teddi Mellencamp shared an update with husband Edwin amid their divorce, reflected on her mom’s divorce with dad John Mellencamp, and hinted at why she isn’t sharing more about the split.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star filed for divorce on November 1. Since then, rumors have swirled that both spouses cheated. Teddi has remained quiet amid the speculation, though she’s revealed certain aspects of the breakup.
On her Diamonds in the Rough podcast with co-host Erika Jayne, via PEOPLE, Teddi shared that her decision to marry and have kids with Edwin is “one of the best things that [she’s] ever done.”
The star claimed she’s living at her friend Kyle Richards’ house, but Teddi and Edwin take turns staying at their shared home with the kids. They apparently switch off “when the other one comes in and sleeps.”
She alleged that neither of them has ill will toward the other, and she noted that they “can both be there like for sporting events.”
“It’s not that we can’t. We’re completely happy to be around one another,” said Teddi, adding that she’s getting through the divorce by not “want[ing] to place blame,” though she has moments when she’s “angry, hurt, or upset” amid the “highs and lows.”
“[Maybe I’ll grieve] or maybe I’m going to fall back in love again. I don’t know,” she said. “[I don’t want] to get to the place where [I feel] bitter.”
She also recalled the divorce of her own parents – John Mellencamp and Victoria Granucci – and shared how it’s influencing her divorce with Edwin.
“There was so much mudslinging at each other,” she said. “It also became about pleasing them.”
Teddi revealed that she still tells her parents not to “call me the other person’s name.” She said the labels aren’t being used as “compliment[s].”
“There is a level of, like, am I supposed to feel shame for being a part of my parents?” she said. “Whenever they would b**ch about each other, I would be like, ‘You guys chose to marry each other and have kids.'”
Teddi recalled that she and her siblings knew when their parents were in “unhappy” moods. Because of this, Teddi is “not putting any emphasis on” her own moods amid the Edwin divorce, as their children are “very smart” and conscious of her and Edwin’s mindset.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Teddi addressed criticism from fans that she isn’t sharing enough about the divorce.
“My response was gonna be like, ‘I’m not paid to be on a television show to do that anymore,’” she said. “Erika was like, ‘You can’t say that. You’re in the public eye.’”
“[Now] my response is to [tell fans to] listen to the latest podcast of ‘Diamonds in the Rough’ and then you’re gonna hear as much as you probably need to hear or want to hear. I’m just not gonna share [much more], like, kids are involved.”
“I think the biggest thing for me is just continuing to show … the good, the bad and the ugly,” Teddi went on. “[And] also try to find as much peace as I can, while also having fun and growing and working as hard as I can and being a good mom.”
