Teddi Mellencamp and Ex Edwin Arroyave Clash Over Spousal Support in Ugly Divorce Battle - lulu

Teddi Mellencamp and her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, are disputing over spousal support amid their now-contentious divorce battle.

On Friday, Arroyave, 47, filed his response to Mellencamp's divorce petition and is reportedly pushing back on her custody and spousal support requests.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 43, had requested primary custody of their three children — Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 4 — with 'reasonable and frequent visitation' for Arroyave in her divorce filing, which she filed last week and announced a day later on November 2.

According to legal documents, Arroyave is contesting and asking for joint physical and legal custody of their minor children.

This comes after it was revealed that the now-estranged pair were in couples therapy 'for years' before their separation.

Her soon-to-be ex-husband also revealed in the latest court documents, which were obtained by Us Weekly, that they have a prenuptial agreement he wants the court to enforce.

He opposed her request for him to provide her with spousal support and to terminate the court’s ability to award Arroyave spousal support.

In his petition, Arroyave requested that Mellencamp should be the one to pay him spousal support and asked the court terminate their ability to award her with any support.

Citing their prenup, he stated in his response: 'The parties' Premarital Agreement sets forth the terms regarding the amount and duration of spousal support to be paid.'

Arroyave also checked both their names to pay their attorney's fees after Mellencamp had requested that Arroyave be solely responsible for all of the legal costs.

Arroyave also claimed the prenup determined that 'all assets, income from all sources, and obligations of each party are his/her separate property, except as specifically set forth Therein.'

And contrary to the reality star's filing, Arroyave listed their official date of separation as November 1 while Mellencamp claimed they split earlier than that and on October 20.

The couple were married for over a decade, and during that time, Mellencamp experienced 'a lot of pain for years' before she finally decided to 'pull the trigger' and file for divorce, a source told The U.S. Sun.

Nearly a week ago, Mellencamp announced her decision and plans to file for divorce from her husband.

'After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,' she wrote in an Instagram post.

'My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter.'

She concluded: 'Making a public statement is not something I wanted to do, but in an effort to protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I felt being open, honest and vulnerable was the best path forward.'

The couple had just celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary in July, and most recently, Mellencamp had Arroyave by her side while she co-hosted the Cure Melanoma Gala.

According to Mellencamp's filing, the pair had separated four days before their PDA-filled gala appearance.

Shortly after Mellencamp announced their separation, Arroyave shared a cryptic post about having 'dark days.'

On November 3, he shared a photo of himself at a hot yoga studio and wrote: 'You're not always going to be motivated or inspired. That's where rituals and habits come in. Having good habits is what will get you through your dark days.

'It's when you're under pressure that your true character is revealed.'
