To say that Philadelphia Eagles supporters can be a passionate bunch would be an understatement.
The Philly faithful came in full force for Super Bowl LIX as they watched their team dominate the two-time defending champions Kansas City Chiefs at New Orleans' Superdome, 40-22, en route to just the second Super Bowl title in Eagles franchise history.
Taylor Swift, who came to the big game to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce, was not spared by the savagery of the Philadelphia supporters at the Super Bowl. At one point early in the game, as the "Fortnight" singer was flashed on the jumbotron, Eagles fans made their feelings for Swift abundantly clear by booing her as loudly as they could.
It resulted in the multi-Grammy Award-winning recording artist reacting in a rather confused manner, seemingly wanting to know "what's going on."
As it turns out, Eagles fans weren't done with their savage treatment of Swift. During Friday's Super Bowl parade in Philadelphia, Daily Mail was able to speak with a number of Philly supporters, who all seemed to have the same sentiment toward the "Eras Tour" headliner.
"She's basically a traitor," one parade-goer told Daily Mail. "She should stay solid with Philly, that's where she's from.
"I don't know if she necessarily deserved [getting booed] but at the same time it just happens, I mean Eagles fans boo their own players when they're doing bad."
The said fan was referencing Swift's supposed affiliation with the Eagles. This stems from the fact that she was born in West Reading, Pennsylvania. According to The Sporting News, Swift claims Philadelphia as her "home city."
In 2020, even before she dated Kelce, Swift was photographed in an Eagles sweater.
The Sporting News cites other instances wherein Swift is seen in Eagles gear while also pointing out the fact that her dad, Scott Swift, is a Philly supporter as well.
All this has Eagles fans claiming that Swift betrayed her hometown team by cheering on the Chiefs.
"It's not necessarily a whole thing about her," another fan told Daily Mail during Friday's parade. "It just had to be expected; she was an Eagles fan, and then she traded that in to go with the Chiefs.
"You can't expect anything less. I don't think it was anything personal, it just happened to be about the team she was rooting for that day."
"She switched over, so I feel like she deserved the boos just as little bit," a supporter asserted. "No hard feelings though, we still love you Taylor."
As one of the fans said, it doesn't seem like Philly fans have anything against Swift on a personal level. While they did call out her supposed betrayal of the Eagles, it appears that it's as simple as cheering for the enemy makes her the enemy, too.
"Here's the deal, we boo everybody," one man explained to Daily Mail. "And the fact of the matter is she was with her boyfriend Travis Kelce who's a Chiefs player, so she's affiliated with the Chiefs."
