Many Bravo fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Summer House. This is especially the case because of where viewers last saw Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard in season 8.
As the new season nears, many of the cast members are beginning to do interviews, which is naturally the case for Carl. Not only is he briefly discussing dating, but he’s also opening up about what went wrong with Lindsay and how he wasn’t ready for a serious relationship.
Fans will recall that season 8 was one of the highlights from the run of the series. Not only did it show Lindsay and Carl as they experienced relationship struggles, but it also ended with them calling off their much-talked-about engagement. Since then, both are in different stages in life, with Lindsay having recently given birth and Carl continuing his sobriety journey.
Recently, Carl sat down for an interview on the iHeart Two Jersey Js with Jackie Goldschneider and Jennifer Fessler podcast. However, this was a “Just Jenn” episode.
They start the podcast by discussing where Carl and Jennifer first met. Apparently, this took place at the Delta airport lounge as they were heading to BravoCon. Dorinda Medley and Jennifer’s husband were also there.
Carl said, “I’ll never forget that Delta Lounge moment because I was so nervous going to BravoCon, but you both made me feel really good.”
This was around the time of the breakup, which made BravoCon a tense experience for Carl. He explained, “It was a tough time. I was in love with her and wanted things to work out, but I think we all agreed it was better for us to go in different directions. You’ll see on the new upcoming season, how post break up and after the reunion, everything kind of unfolds.”
They then discuss the panel at BravoCon that year and how Carl learned later that he was booed. According to him, “And when we got on our panel, I don’t recall hearing boos, but it was funny after that day; I went to check social media, and there were lots of videos posted. There was a fair amount of booing. It is what it is.”
He went on, “It’s a year ago. I’m much happier and healthier now. I needed some time to kind of regroup and recover. And you’ll see even on the new season.”
Despite that, he says people were kind to him at BravoCon that year and that he’s never had anyone negatively approach him in person about his breakup with Lindsay. However, he admits that the online community is a mostly different experience.
Jennifer and Carl eventually start talking about the show and how it’s different from Housewives in that the cameras are always there. Carl adds that many of the juiciest moments come when the cast forgets the cameras are there. However, he also shared that he drank quite a bit in the earlier seasons. This is especially the case before confessionals.
The Summer House star remarked, “First five seasons of Summer House, I got lit in that chair. I partied pretty hard early on. And whether the camera was rolling or not, I didn’t think about it. I would show up to interviews sometimes.”
As the discussion continues, Carl and Jennifer begin to discuss his dating life post-breakup and where he’s at today. He remarked, “Yeah, I’m single. I mean, I’ve been going on some dates, putting myself back out there, which you’ll see on the new season, which it took me some time to get kind of back to my own, getting my confidence level back.”
Regarding being celibate, he admits, “Yeah, I mean, just full transparency. I mean, I have broken the streak already since. But no, it took me some time.”
Carl continued to discuss the woman by saying, “We’ve texted. It never really materialized much after the summer, but again, being a very public person and having been on this show for quite some time now, it presents a layer of challenge sometimes with meeting and dating.”
The interview then takes a bit of a deeper turn, and they discuss meeting fans and the impact they can have on people who watch them. For Carl, he says that these are meaningful encounters.
“I mean, it’s amazing when people come up to you. I actually joke with them. I go, the moment this stops happening is when I’m like, fu**”
He continued, “A fair amount of people have approached me and expressed, you’ve helped me get through something really difficult, or you inspired me to make a change, or I had a sibling who was struggling. I’ve had some, I’ve had people stop me on the street and give me hugs. And it still blows me away.”
One of the last things the two discussed was how the show came about for Carl. He told the story by saying, “Kyle and I had been friends, it’s a true story. I was at my dentist’s office, and he knows Kyle and Everett, and they were my friends, and I had heard about this house happening.”
He continued to explain by saying, “And I reached out to Kyle, I was like, yo, what are you guys doing this summer? He’s like, we’re gonna do this thing, we have an extra spot if you want to join. So yeah, like early on, I remember talking to Kyle, and his thing was, dude, we’re already doing this anyway, we’re having fun on the weekend, we’re partying, but maybe there’s something that could happen with this.”
Carl added, “We didn’t know at all what that would be, but I appreciated Kyle kind of, he pushed me because I wasn’t necessarily like, yeah, gung ho, I was like, well, why? And he’s like, it’s not all about partying. And that stuck with me forever. It’s a platform. It’s a party, but it’s a platform.”
Fans can watch the season premiere of Summer House on February 12th on Bravo.
