Steelers' New Star Receiver Labeled Team's Worst Contract

Pittsburgh Steelers' New Star Receiver Labeled Team's Worst Contract - Athlon SportsThe Pittsburgh Steelers traded away star wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason, but they had just traded with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire D.K. Metcalf.

And some believe that they are paying him a bit too much money.

In a recent article by NFL Spin Zone's Lou Scataglia, he lists what he believes is every NFL team's worst contract. For the Steelers, he believes that contract is their new star wideout.

"While I am higher on DK Metcalf than a lot of people, it just feels like he's outside that top tier of wide receivers in the NFL," Scataglia wrote. "Some have called out Metcalf over the years for getting lazy with his route-running at times. Despite that, he has still been quite productive, but his current contract is paying him $33 million per year, which is a bit rich in the eyes of many."

At $33 million a year, that means that Metcalf is the fourth-highest paid wide receiver in the NFL, only behind Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and Ceedee Lamb. And many believe that he is not in the same league with those guys.

While it may be true that 992 yards and five touchdowns for Metcalf in 2024 may be a bit of a disappointing season, he has shown flashes of being one of the scariest receivers in the league. His 6-4, 229 pound frame makes him a nightmare for opposing cornerbacks to cover.

With Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball in Pittsburgh, Metcalf will be looking to help lead the team to their fifth playoff appearance in the last six seasons.
