Southern Charm star Venita Aspen had some deeper feelings about JT Thomas than just flirtation. As Season 9 comes to an end, it seems like Venita is still trying to unpack her feelings about what her friendship with the newbie costar really meant.
During Southern Charm Season 9, viewers saw Venita falling for JT. Then unceremoniously finding out he was seeing someone else. JT’s off-camera lady, Ali Pereless, confronted Venita on social media. And it’s a matter that she addresses during the reunion.
During the Southern Charm After Show, Venita told her costar, Leva Bonaparte, that she felt such a connection with JT that she even considered a permanent future with him. Since that episode aired, she offered more insight into her feelings in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly.
“Isn’t that crazy? You know what, time is really something. It’s so crazy,” Venita explained her marriage comment to the news publication. “Leva and I would talk about JT a lot … She was like, ‘I can really see you guys getting along, dating, making something of this.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, me too.’ Then, here we are.”
Venita’s comments to Us indicate a lack of cohesion on future plans. As in, nothing was discussed past the initial encounter. But it did cross the influencer’s mind whether her connection with JT turned into a commitment.
“We just were trying to figure out, ‘Hey, OK, are we doing the dating thing or are we not?’” she said. “‘Let’s go out and see if we really do have this chemistry that everyone else is saying that we have.’”
According to Venita’s perspective, the timeline with JT started in spring 2024 when he revealed that he was dating someone. Southern Charm was filming Season 9 at the time. Then, JT and Venita briefly dated in September 2024. JT went public with Ali two months later in November 2024. As for what happened in between, Venita is choosing to believe JT’s side of the story.
“They weren’t a thing at the time that I know of,” Venita stated. “That’s what he was telling me, and I was believing him and trusting him in that.”
“It’s too messy. I just wish that he could just come out and be like, ‘Hey, listen, I caused all this. I made things messy. Don’t be mad at either [of] these women. I should have done a better job at communicating with both of them what was going on and what I was doing,’” Venita continued. “I wish I knew what I know now. Then I might’ve responded and acted a little different. I did come at him, but I could have done a little more.”
