Southern Charm newcomer Chleb Ravenell is opening up more about his break-up with costar and ex-girlfriend Kathryn Dennis after watching the show back as it airs, and he is revealing it’s been a hard pill to swallow.
In a new interview, Chleb reveals he pretty much skipped over the breakup episode as it was too painful to watch.
“I’m going to be completely honest with you, I got sent the episode a couple of days before, and I kind of skipped through it because it was really, really emotional for me. I literally couldn’t watch it,” Chleb told ET Online.
During the episode, Kathryn told Chleb that she thought the two were building a “strong foundation,” but it clearly “wasn’t working.”
Chleb went on to reveal that he didn’t date Kathryn to join the show. It was because he “loved” her, and it was Kathryn who pushed him to join Southern Charm. He also noted that he knew Kathryn was on the show but didn’t know her “character” and antics that she regularly causes. Chleb also said the Kathryn that you see on show is the same Kathryn you get in real life.
“I didn’t date Kathryn to really be on the show, I dated Kathryn because I loved her,” Chleb explained. “Kathryn was the one who was like ‘Hey, you should be on the show. You’ve got a good personality. I think it will be good for you.’”
The Southern Charm freshman said in reality it took a lot of convincing to get him on the show.
“It took a lot of convincing because I played football and that’s what I wanted to be known for. And then to transition into something I don’t know….”
Chleb also went on to say that his and Kathryn’s breakup didn’t affect his relationship with the group as he’s been friends with the rest of the cast for years.
“[When] Kathryn and I broke up it wasn’t like I was disconnected from the group because I’ve been friends with them for about 7 to 8 years. So, we still have a common bond and can get along.”
Even though he still has friends within the cast, Chleb said the Kathryn-initiated break-up still hurt.
“That literally kind of broke my heart,” Chleb admitted. “I was literally trying everything to get back together with her because I wanted to make it work.”
Kathryn told Chleb that he wasn’t “fulfilling” the role that she needed him to fill in terms of being another father figure to her children. Chleb said he had no real time to “adjust” as the children were just thrown at him amid her custody battle with ex Thomas Ravenel.
When asked if there was going to be any attempts at reconciliation moving forward in the new season, Chleb remained mum, playing the usual “you’ll have to watch and see” card.
For what Chleb did offer up about what’s to come for him and Kathryn ahead of the rest of the season, he said, “It’s going to be fun. Let’s put it that way.”
As for where and Kathryn stand today, Chleb said he only wants “the best” for Kathryn and that the two “don’t really talk anymore.”
