Tom Girardi’s friends are reportedly “furious” that Erika Jayne “left him to rot” during his hour of need, and they look forward to seeing the $24 million lawsuit against her. Earlier this year, Tom was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for embezzlement.
Back in 2020, Erika separated from the once-acclaimed attorney shortly before he was accused of embezzling millions of dollars from clients. Two years later, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was dismissed from a case after a judge ruled that Erika had “no actual knowledge” of Tom’s actions. However, Tom’s bankruptcy trustee is still suing Erika for $24 million, alleging she used the embezzled money for personal reasons and should return it to the victims.
According to a source close to the attorney, Tom’s friends are enraged that Erika left him during his hour of need and that she remains unscathed.
“The second that things started unraveling, Erika ran for cover and left him to rot,” said the source in an interview with Radar. “She ditched him the moment the money ran dry.”
Though the date for the lawsuit against Erika hasn’t been set, Tom’s friends are looking forward to seeing it so Erika can be held responsible, per the insider.
“They don’t buy her Miss Innocent act and think she ought to face some justice, too,” said the source. “They haven’t forgotten how she bailed on Tom the moment it suited her, and they’re furious.”
Earlier this month, Erika’s attorney, Jim Wilkes, shed light on how Erika was handling Tom’s guilty verdict.
“Erika spent many years with Tom, she is experiencing a wave of emotions. I’m sure she’s emotionally destroyed, but there’s a part of her that’s shut off and compartmentalized,” said Jim, speaking to The Sun. “If someone you loved and trusted, and everyone else told you to trust, broke every bit of trust you had in them and didn’t even tell you, covered it up, how would you feel?”
“I’m not happy to see anyone suffer. But Tom was a prominent figure and he did some stupid stuff, he deserves to be punished for what he did,” the attorney added. “It looks like he did a lot for a long time. He lost everything. You have to deal with the consequences, the system is not perfect but I’m sure he’ll be in minimum security as he’s no threat, but prison is still prison.”
