It was a difficult time for Brittany Cartwright after her estranged husband Jax Taylor checked himself into a mental health facility to work out his issues with anger, depression, and drug addiction — especially since, as she revealed on Season 2, Episode 4 of The Valley, Jax was “rage texting” her while he was supposed to be working on himself.
“I found out he’s in therapy almost seven hours a day," Brittany began. "They take his phone while he’s in therapy and then he gets 15-minute breaks in between. So, he’s doing therapy, getting his phone, rage texting me, going back to therapy, getting his phone, rage texting me, going back to therapy.”
Brittany revealed some of these texts while making her way to Santa Barbara for a vacation with the rest of the cast.
“Please don’t lie to me,” one message read, while another said, “I want this place to work for me and I will crumble if I find out you are doing that.”
Producers put more of Jax’s texts on screen: “Go screen grab all this now and send to all your friends” and “Not playing your games…just be honest.”
Later, the group was racing toy cars, and Jax again sent a series of texts to Brittany.
“Can you call me? I have some stuff I want to say. I just got out of therapy,” Jax texted, and then added, “Not making you feel safe or wanted or asking how you are.”
Brittany was visibly frustrated by the texts, and sighed, “I just need to like block his number.”
She told the group, “He’s just saying things to hurt me,” and Janet Caperna replied, “Only Jax would rage text from rehab.”
Kristen Doute showed Brittany a text she received from Jax with a different message: “It was like, ‘I love it here.’”
“Because he knows that we’re coming here today so he’s trying to make everybody think that that’s how he’s been,” Brittany responded, then she showed Kristen even more texts she’d received from her ex.
“You took my son from me. Disgusting,” Jax wrote, along with, “You took my job away from me…I’ve worked so hard for two years for this and you took it from me.”
Jax also messaged: “I am doing this for my son…my God your family is the most f—ked up I have ever seen, and they would never do what you did.”
He sent another text that blamed Brittany for his stay at the mental health facility: “I will never ever forgive you…you destroyed the only thing that I love doing.”
Brittany was upset about the messages, and she ultimately took them as a sign that Jax wasn’t fully committed to getting help yet. “He needs to take this seriously. Because this is going to make or break it for the rest of his life. If he doesn’t get help now, then he’s just going to keep spiraling and that scares me,” she said in her confessional.
