Sean Avery publicly bashes New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette

Sean Avery didn't hold his words back when asked about Rangers coach Peter Laviolette, bashing him by saying if it were him he would fire him immediately.

The Rangers have slumped into a poor patch of eight losses in the last 10, with their last result seeing them tie up with the New York Islanders on points for dead last in the Metropolitan Division.

Losses mount, and with it come questions of the team's direction. Calls for change abound, with many fans and analysts questioning if head coach Peter Laviolette should be let go.

Also chiming in with criticism was former Ranger Sean Avery, who reportedly sat down with general manager Chris Drury to discuss the team's woes.

Appearing on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, co-host Paul Bissonnette asked Sean Avery if he thought Peter Laviolette should be let go. Avery didn't mince words.

"I'd fire him today".

- Sean Avery

"Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. You have to, you have to, guys. In a big market like that, Eastern Conference Finals last year were that close. It starts. Unfortunately, that's part of it. Yeah, the coach goes first, but that's where I get nervous."The coach goes, then who goes? Then, then who do you bring in? The whole system is broken, and the iPads on the bench. What do you want to see? You want to watch your release point on that one like, 'I need you in the game, fellas.'"

- Sean Avery

Avery also suggested that the Rangers should explore trading defenseman K'Andre Miller. Miller has recorded just six points and is a -5 in 28 games so far this season.

"As far as K'Andre, you got to move him now," Avery said. "You got to move him now, while he has trade value, it's not going to work out. He's not a big-market guy. He doesn't have the demeanor of Ryan McDonough, because Ryan McDonough, when you put him in a war zone, he turns into a real warrior quick.

The bigger roster moves have already been made by the Rangers, who dealt away former captain Jacob Trouba and forward Kaapo Kakko.

We will know over the next few weeks or so whether Sean Avery's comments have any truth to them, as it is no secret Laviolette is definitely on the hot seat.
