Scheana Shay Thrills Fans With 'Masked Singer' Surprise

Scheana Shay surprised fans with a cameo on  “The Masked Singer.”

On March 5, the veteran “Vanderpump Rules” star was the first person unmasked on the show’s “Voices of Olympus: Unmasking of the Gods” night. Despite her premature departure, Shay’s performance of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” was good as gold.

After the episode aired on the East Coast, Shay posted to Instagram to share a clip of her big reveal as The Bat on the show. “The secret is out! You can call me Bat. 🦇” she wrote. “I loved competing in this season of #TheMaskedSinger.”

Shay actually baffled judges Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Rita Ora. While Bravolebrities were among their guesses for Bat’s identity –“Real Housewives” stars Lisa Rinna and Bethenny Frankel were among the names thrown out by the group– Shay fooled them all.

‘Vanderpump Rules’ Fans May Have Recognized Shay’s Voice & Some of Her Clues

Before revealing her identity, Shay some dropped clues to her claim to fame. “Like bats, I’m one of the most misunderstood creatures ever,” she shared. “I’ve been forever villainized, constantly portrayed as a blood-sucking backstabber.”

Her next line was a big clue for fans familiar with her pop single, “Good as Gold.”

“My real friends know I actually have a heart of gold,” she teased. “I’ve just been surrounded by a bunch of lunatics and for years all my words have been twisted upside down. I’m just out here partying and having the time of my life.”

Shay’s unmasking left several of the judges with dropped jaws. She later explained more about her costumes—and clues. “Bats are one of my favorite animals ever,” she said. “My daughter’s name is Summer Moon, [and] bats are nocturnal. We’ve got a V on me for ‘Vanderpump Rules,” she added of her glittery necklace.

Shay also offered a “thank you” to supportive fans and friends. “This has been so fun,” she said. “I’m just proud of myself for doing it.”

Several of Shay’s Bravo co-stars reacted in the comment section.

“Yaasss!!!” wrote “The Valley” star Janet Caperna.

“Scheana!!” wrote former VPR star Stassi Schroeder, adding clapping hands emoji.

“Get it girl!” added “Vanderpump Rules” celebrity Israel Issac.

“That’s awesome,” “The Valley’s” Michelle Sanei wrote of Shay’s secret.

Other fans poked fun at Shay’s past desire to be on “Dancing With the Stars.”

“Has anyone checked on……oh wait we’re good!” one fan wrote of Shay.

“It’s not Dancing With The Stars, but it’ll do,” another chimed in.

Scheana Shay Has Long Wanted to Compete on DWTS, But She Changed Her Tune

Shay previously talked about her desire to compete on “Dancing With the Stars.” During a March 2024 appearance on Heather McDonald’s “Juice Scoop” podcast, she cliamed she had been in serious talks with DWTS producers in late 2022 and was told she was “right up there” on the list of potential contestants for season 32.  Her “Vanderpump Rules” co-star Ariana Madix was cast instead.

In the “Vanderpump Rules” season 11 episode “Written in the Stars,” Shay told Lisa Vanderpump that it was a “punch to the gut” when she heard Madix was cast on the ABC celebrity ballroom show instead of her. She did go on to support Madix in the ballroom.

On the January 24 episode of her “Scheananagins With Scheana Shay” podcast, Shay noted that she was no longer interested in being on DWTS. “’The Traitors’ is my new Dancing With the Stars,’ “she told guests Kiki Minique and Ryan Bailey. “I genuinely don’t want to do ‘Dancing With the Stars’ anymore. I don’t, I feel like that time has come and passed.”
