The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in their Super Bowl LIX matchup on Sunday night, claiming the Lombardi Trophy with a 40-22 win over the back-to-back reigning champions.
Saquon Barkley played a monumental role within the Eagles' offense throughout his first season with the organization. Through 16 regular-season games, the former New York Giants recorded 2,005 rushing yards — falling just short of Eric Dickerson's long-standing NFL rushing record.
Barkley's postseason play was stellar leading up to the Super Bowl. But in Sunday's blowout win over the Chiefs, the Eagles didn't even need his elite offensive production.
Barkley finished the game with just 57 yards on 25 carries. But with a stress-free Lombardi Trophy in the bank, he's certainly unbothered by that lackluster individual stat line.
Barkley has been celebrating with his Eagles teammates in the hours following their Super Bowl LIX win. On Monday, the 2024 Offensive Player of the Year continued that celebration with a lavish purchase.
Barkley bought a $100,000 diamond chain in the shape of his jersey number: 26.
While Barkley didn't have his best individual production in the Super Bowl, his playoff performance was enough to see him break Terrell Davis' record for combined regular season and postseason rushing yards. Barkley finished the year with 2,857, passing Davis' 2,762 mark set in 1998.
"It's safe to say that I'ma take the cake for this year. I would say try again next year, But next year will probably be my best year… GOD IS GREAT," Barkley wrote on X after the game.
Barkley and the Eagles will no doubt continue their well-deserved celebration over the next few days.
