Ubah Hassan responded to claims of being a “bully” on her Instagram Story after last week’s finale episode of The Real Housewives of New York City saw her at war with Brynn Whitfield.
After Brynn, 39, accused Ubah, 41, of using her past sexual assault against her by suggesting she slept with men to get ahead in her career, Ubah was confronted by a viewer who accused her of “horrible behavior” and insinuated that she would never be a good wife or mother.
“I have never commented on a post ever! I love [RHONY]. But u are the biggest meanest bully I have ever encountered. No one stands up to you. I cannot imagine u as a wife and sure not a mother. Just horrible behavior,” the person said.
In response, Ubah shared a statement of her own.
“This message speaks volumes about where you are in life. I have never lied, gossiped, or caused conflict on the show—I only respond when the nonsense becomes impossible to ignore,” she explained. “What you see may highlight my reactions, but not the reasons behind them. If you watched with an open mind and an unbiased perspective, you’d see that I never initiate drama; I only address it. Your hatred toward me is nothing more than a reflection of your own insecurities and lack of authenticity.”
“Clearly, my confidence and straightforwardness triggered the cowardly in you, and for that, I’ll say: that’s a YOU problem,” Ubah added.
While Ubah has faced backlash for her behavior toward Brynn, she’s also gotten plenty of support from both her fans and her castmates, some of whom took a stand against Brynn, who admitted that Ubah may not have heard her when she spoke of her past assault.
As RHONY fans may have seen, Sai De Silva, 44, unfollowed Brynn after the finale, and Jenna Lyons, 56, confirmed on Watch What Happens Live that the cast had not spoken to Brynn since the reunion. Meanwhile, Erin Lichy, 37, called out Brynn for suggesting they were like “sisters” despite her feud with Ubah.
“To say we are sisters is quite the reach,” Erin declared in an Instagram comment. “We haven’t spoken or seen each other in months other than Brynn thanking Abe for clearing up the intention for the [prank] call — I really wanted Brynn to win so bad. I was excited to watch her shine like I am with all my girlfriends. Each woman on this show is special and smart and I really was excited for us collectively but Brynn always had all this childhood trauma that I was particularly excited to see her break free from.”
“Yet, here we are… An article doubling down instead of saying hey, I messed up. It’s upsetting to read for all of you viewers, can you imagine how it feels for us?” she continued. “This show is supposed to be fun, it’s all I tried to do throughout yet somehow things kept getting twisted and turned and I will take ownership that I very much was naïve and fell victim to that manipulation.”
The Real Housewives of New York City season 15 reunion begins Tuesday, January 28, at 9/8c on Bravo.
