Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Nepola is sharing an update following husband Todd Nepola's divorce filing.

"Todd and I are trying to figure things out," Alexia tells PEOPLE at Bravo Fan Fest 2024. "We're still working on getting better and getting stronger and figuring it out because we really do love each other a lot."

She adds, "We're seeing each other and learning to love each other better."

Todd made the decision to file for divorce on April 11. Hours after the news broke, Alexia addressed the matter on her Instagram Stories, saying, "I am shocked and heartbroken Todd has chosen to dissolve our marriage."

Months after the filing, she tells PEOPLE they are not living together. "It's good because we've had time," she says. "I think that helped us not living together, helped us know that we really do want to be with each other and we truly love each other and we can't live without each other. It's just learning a way to deal with all of this."

At the moment, they will not spend Thanksgiving together. "I don't feel we're ready yet," she says. "But he'll be with his girls and I'll be with my boys and we'll probably see each other later. We don't want to hurt anybody, you know, our families along the way because we all love each other. So it's hard."

Alexia did however spend the day at Bravo Fan Fest with Todd's mother: "She's such a Bravo fan and I have a beautiful relationship with her."

At the moment, Alexia says she's tuning out other people's opinions and focusing on herself. "I've always done everything from my heart," she shares. "I'm a fighter. I just don't quit and I feel like he feels the same way and we really do love each other. Relationships are tough and doing a reality show makes it even tougher on our relationship."

She says dealing with the divorce while cameras are rolling for season 7 was also diffcult. "This season for me has been so hard because I've kind of had to talk about it and share it and it's not something, you know, he likes or he wants and neither do I. But, you know, I'm on a show, that's what I do."

A few weeks after the divorce filing was announced, Alexia told costar Marysol Patton on Marysol's podcast, Ay Por Favor, that she was questioning "What happened?"

At the time, she revealed that she was experiencing the five stages of grief. But she added that the couple "love each other" and a lack of love wasn't the reason behind their split.

"It's just very sad, I guess we couldn't figure out a way to fix things, and that's why I was in such shock because I'm a fighter, I fight right?" she said. "I was never expecting that, I thought things were good, so it's been really shocking and I'm devastated."
