Dorit Kemsley shared her thoughts on who leaked the story about Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky‘s split after Wednesday’s episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 13 finale.
As Sutton Stracke, 52, suggested that Kyle, 55, or Mauricio, 53, was behind the leak and other cast members shared their reactions to the news, Dorit, 47, addressed the couple’s separation as Kyle confirmed what she and Mauricio were doing when the story was first shared — and revealed how their daughters responded.
“I think Mo thinks it was someone in Kyle’s camp,” Dorit disclosed on the February 21 episode of the RHOBH: After Show.
And Sutton agreed, saying, “I think the source is in camp,” before guessing the information was given by the couple themselves.
“I think it’s either Kyle or Mauricio. That is who I think it is. Or both of them,” Sutton shared. “If you put it out there first, you can control it. Then you can deny it all you want.”
“Well then, why immediately come out and say, ‘No, no, no, it’s not true?'” wondered Garcelle Beauvais, 57.
Looking back on her initial reaction to Kyle and Mauricio’s breakup, Crystal Kung-Minkoff, 40, said she “felt really sad for them,” as Dorit suspected it was “the beginning of the end.”
According to Kyle, Mauricio was “really focused” on who it was that leaked the news.
“People knew but like … It was not something even I was ready to see in writing like that. It made it more real,” she explained.
As someone who also went through a very public split, Erika Jayne, 52, said it’s hard to live life in the spotlight.
“You can say, ‘You sign up for this. You have a public life.’ That’s great in theory until something like this happens where you go, ‘Oh my God. Now I’m not in control of my own story.’ I think it’s hard for people to remember we’re human beings, and it’s easy to say things about us or not remember there’s a human being behind a personality that you see on television or online. It sucks a lot,” she noted.
“What she said,” Kyle replied.
Kyle then revealed that when the story about her and Mauricio was first shared by PEOPLE magazine last summer, they were actually vacationing in Aspen with their children, who include Farrah Aldjufrie, 35, Alexia Umansky, 27, Sophia Umansky, 24, and Portia Umansky, 15.
“This is a day I will never forget. It was July 3 and I was in Aspen and a story came out saying that Mo and I were separated. We still are, even today, living in the same home under the same roof, but we were separated because we weren’t living as a married couple and we hadn’t really fully discussed it with our kids, which I am embarrassed to say now,” she recalled, adding that neither she nor Mauricio was ready to discuss their split with their daughters.
“I don’t know if that’s just hoping it goes away or what, but we hadn’t discussed it with them, so when this article came out we were all literally loading up the car to go paddle boarding down the river in Aspen,” she shared. “Mo, the girls and me and Jake, Alexia’s boyfriend, and I looked at my phone, and my phone was just blowing up, and Mo’s is blowing up … Then I see the girls all looking at their phones, one to the next and my whole body went numb.”
After deciding to enjoy their time together on the river, Kyle and Mauricio returned to their Aspen home, where they had a tough conversation with their family.
“The girls were just, ‘We don’t wanna leave the house.’ And they couldn’t stop crying. And they said they feel like somebody died because people are reaching out to them like, ‘Are you okay?’ — people they hadn’t seen in years,” Kyle explained. “I had people reaching out to me from elementary school, people that I’d met but don’t really know. My phone was blowing up and it was so anxiety-provoking but that forced us to face [it].”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 13 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
