The New England Patriots are widely reported to be the most aggressive team in free agency next week. The team is cutting zero corners when it comes to surrounding QB Drake Maye with talent, including a potential reunion between Patriots HC Mike Vrabel and Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown.
According to Matthew Berry from ESPN, the Patriots reached out to the Eagles regarding Brown’s availability. Berry adds that the Patriots will do “whatever they can” to bring in a true WR1 for Maye.
Before joining Philadelphia, Brown played under Vrabel in Tennessee for three seasons, where he accumulated 185 receptions for 2,995 yards and 29 total touchdowns. Since being traded to Philadelphia, Brown has recorded 261 receptions for 4,031 yards and 25 total touchdowns in three seasons.
Brown is one of the most physically dominant receivers in the league. At 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, he embraces any challenge and runs the route tree exceptionally well for someone of his size and stature.
Since Brown’s departure from Tennessee, Vrabel has been candid with multiple outlets about his strong relationship with Brown and his desire to coach him again one day.
New England’s current wide receiver group is very young, with Kendrick Bourne, Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, Demario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and John Jiles under contract heading into free agency.
With no clear indication of whether Brown is set on staying or leaving Philadelphia after a Super Bowl victory, stay tuned for potential updates on his situation.
