Rangers Have Reportedly ‘Made Their Choice’ With Igor Shesterkin Contract

USATSI_24316026The New York Rangers contract situation with Igor Shesterkin is heating up.

With the regular season set to begin in a few days, Shesterkin and the Rangers management seem to be on the same page.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman is pretty confident that the Rangers will get a deal done with Shesterkin and it’s only a matter of time.

“I believe it’s going to work out," Friedman said. "I think the Rangers have made the choice that they’re going to pay him and, to me, it just comes down to what the numbers going to be. Until I’m told otherwise, I expect them to work out. Work it out. I believe the Rangers have made their choice here.”

All signs are pointing in the direction of Shesterkin becoming the highest paid goalie in NHL history.

Jeremy Swayman just signed an eight-year contract with the Bruins that will earn him $8.5 million per season and Shesterkin will almost certainly get paid more than Swayman.

Despite a report stating the Rangers would stop negotiations until next summer if a deal is not reached by the start of the regular season, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Rangers are not fazed by the reported regular season deadline to strike a deal with Shesterkin.

It’s unclear whether or not the Rangers will wait until the offseason or an agreement will be done long before Shesterkin hits the open market, but if all reports are true, Rangers fans can rest easy about the superstar goalie’s future in New York.
