ST. LOUIS — For the Rangers, there was good news out of Hartford, Conn., on Sunday.
Brennan Othmann shed the cast he’d been wearing on his wrist/forearm and skated in a noncontact jersey with his Wolf Pack teammates.
It is a positive development for the 21-year-old forward, who went down just three games into the AHL season.
Rangers left wing Brennan Othmann (78) in September 2024.
Originally projected to miss four to six weeks in October, Othmann was then updated to be on pace for a return around Christmas.
In the wake of the Rangers’ downward spiral, it’s an opportune time for Othmann to be rejoining the Rangers mix.
Despite having a training camp that was overshadowed by other rookies, Othmann competed in the Rangers’ final exhibition game and was among the last rounds of cuts.
He was battling a nasty cold at the time, which surely hampered his performance.
Drafted 16th overall by the Rangers in 2021, Othmann made his NHL debut last season on Jan. 4.
He earned the call with Kaapo Kakko and Tyler Pitlick out with injuries and played in three straight games.
Despite not being able to register a point, Othmann had a particularly strong first game before finishing with six shots on goal in his brief NHL stint.
The Ontario native was then sent back down to the AHL, where he finished with 21 goals and 28 assists in 67 games last season.
The Rangers already have three rookies in the lineup in Adam Edstrom, Victor Mancini and Brett Berard.
Edstrom has skated in all 30 games so far this season, while Mancini made the lineup out of training camp due to Ryan Lindgren’s injury before he was sent down in mid-November.
He appeared in a preseason contest against the Islanders in September 2024.
When captain Jacob Trouba was traded to Anaheim, Mancini was called back up and has skated in the last six games.
Berard skated in his fourth straight game and eighth contest this season Sunday after getting injured during his first call-up at the end of November.
